Diet has always been a very important part of the process of human life, it has evolved with the development of mankind, due to the time and geographical conditions of life and other aspects of the impact, various countries to develop their own unique eating characteristics and food culture.
While after participating in this course, we have learned a lot that there are many factors could impact people’s health, and food culture is impacting a lot in an inconspicuous way in our daily life.
Diet is not only to maintain the survival of mankind, but also carrying a culture. The form of food culture is of diversity, it has a profound heritage in its region, among the various ethnic groups. And the production process is unique, it is produced in the majority of the people’s labor practice, and deepen in the social group life. Therefore, the creation of the food culture has two stages, the first is to meet the survival need, the process of find edible food, the second is to eat, the related behaviors and process to take the food. Specifically, the food culture not only covers the development, use and process of raw materials, technology and humanities and other areas involved in the entire process science , but also covers the traditional customs and philosophy. In other words, the food culture is the sum of all the food, the combination of the way, process, function of food production and food eating habits.
One member of our group is from China which has a long history of food, but very different from that of western countries, it is debatable which kind of food culture is more healthier. Thus we find it maybe helpful to take a close look at both food culture and habits to find the different features of each, and in which way it could impact the health.
