Health Program Intervention
A good working environment should be in service of both people and work, there are several basic goals that a good working place should achieve: to improve work efficiency, improve the comfortableness of the working environment. A good working environment will allow people have a good mood, so the employers could demonstrate ability and imagination; Advanced goal is the staff participation, the staff participation being said here is to which level the office space design at the very beginning taking into account the company’s overall office culture and opinions of the employer, whether the design inspiration is derived from the staff, and whether enough autonomy has been given to the employees for later expansion within the space office. To achieve those goals, the first step is to cultivate a healthy working place for the employees. A workplace health program could be designed as follows.
1. On-site fitness programs
Nowadays, enviably, office employees are facing with all kinds of pressures, such as competition pressure, heavy work load, promotion pressure, emotional pressure and interpersonal pressure, all of this have an negative effect on the employee, and affect will affect their work performance in the long run.
We all know that exercise can relief stress, for in the process of exercise, our body will secret endorphin which could make us feel happy. Medical researchers found that exercise 30 minutes a day can effectively relieve 30% of the pressure. Here we can see the importance of exercise. After continually working for 1 hour, one can spare a few minutes to do some small tricks, such as kick the legs, stretching the waist. In addition, research found that it is best to have at least three times aerobic exercise each week , such as running, climbing, playing, etc., time control in 2 hours or so.
Several table tennis tables, pool tables and Foosball can be placed in the working place for leisure. An office room could be turned into a gym with all kinds of equipment. Profession coach could be invited to the office to guide the employee body building which would be customized based on the need of individual. Also, the employees could be taught to doing exercise just at the working desk. The company could set a time both in the morning and afternoon to broadcast sporty music to encourage the employees to stand up and do some exercises. Also, the company could hold fitness game to motivate the employees. Clubs could be established, such as football, basketball as well as tennis. Each week, the company could rent a place football field or basketball field for employees to use.
Focus room could be established. The focus room have the space for 3 to 4 for people, employees could have a small discuss and do meditation in it. The sound proof of the focus room should be good.
Company lounge general could be design in some corner space of the company, which should not directly connected with the office area. It is better to have a partition wall. This design will allow employees to fully relax. The design of the lounge is generally will not be complicated, just with a few tables and chairs is good enough. And it should not be designed very formal. It could be a very good choice to have the lounge on the outside the office, the outdoor lounge not only completely separated from the working environment, being very casual, but also allow employees to be released from a small indoor environment.
3. Coffee Break
Recently, there are research reports show that white-collar workers in the office life are generally faced with varying degrees of work pressure, white-collar workers in the office generally have poor physical health problems, of which 53% have varying degrees of back pain, neck pain or waist pain, 49.3% of the white-collar workers think that they have sleep problems, 43.4% respondents said that they have problems of headache and dizziness. In addition, psychologically, improper coping strategies also lead to individual anxiety, depression, fatigue, poor interpersonal communication problems. Mind and body will have interaction and impact on each other, making the situation even worse.
“Coffee break” in enterprises will allow employees to relax for a moment. 15-20 minutes each time can not only adjust the bad physiological and psychological state, during the “coffee break”, it can help to promote good communication within the enterprise. Such humane institutional arrangement will not waste time, but increase the efficiency of the entire organization.
There are coffee machines and beverages should be prepared in the coffee break room. Also, snacks and fruits could be placed in the coffee break room.
4. medical screenings
The human body is a high-speed operation machine, and the organs of the body are like the various machine parts, with 24 hours a day non-stop operation, the existence of hidden dangers will gradually increase without the perennial check, there will be serious problems if people neglect to check it. Many disease do not have clear sign in early stage, so the only way to maintain a healthy state is to have checks regularly, make early prevention and treatment.
Every year the company should invite medical staff to the company to do the the staff physical examination, include the most basic items, such as height, weight, waist, blood pressure and blood sugar. The company would not ask to see the report of the physical check. Know your numbers yourself is what matters the most. The insurance should include a year round of physical examination, encourage the employees to do it. Educate employees to have the physical check considering their age and family history. For example, for ordinary healthy people, blood plus liver and kidney function should be checked. For women gynecological examination and cervical slices would be suggested. In order to encourage employees to participate in the physical check, the company would give the participants a reward of $ 75.
5. Health education, coaching and training.
The health training should be held 2 times a year. The contents should include the following aspects. A. occupational health and safety laws and regulations .B. Education on healthy life style and eating habit. C health and safety knowledge training. D. fire, heat stroke, poisoning, accident emergency plan knowledge training, if necessary, the employees should have on site exercise.
